Tony Hawk recently showed off a new trick, but it had nothing to do with a skateboard . The Birdman teamed up with Houzz , the online destination for home renovation, to surprise Kerry Overman (the wife of Hawk’s best friend, Ray Underhill, who died from brain cancer in 2008) with a newly renovated home.
“I’m so thankful to be in this family’s life, and it was a huge honor for me to renovate their home,” the skateboarder shared. “I used Houzz to pull together the entire project: from finding a local design-build firm with great reviews and sharing ideas with them to buying the ideal products and furniture we used. When Ray passed, I vowed to help Kerry and her family however I can, and I am proud that we were able to create such an open, modern and functional space, perfect for their close-knit family.”

Overman’s home—which she shares with her children in Wilmington, North Carolina—has been transformed with the assistance of Hawk and the recommended contractor in the area: PBC Design + Build . It now boasts a rustic aesthetic, which can be seen in the new bathroom and the new kitchen as well as in the other interior areas. The entire renovation is featured in Houzz’s My Houzz series, which is produced by Ashton Kutcher and has also documented the missions of other celebs such as Kristen Bell.
“To me, home means family. It’s surrounding yourself with people you trust. I mean, it’s a sense of belonging,” Tony Hawk said.
