I consider myself a pretty organized person (it is basically my job). But there is one holiday-prep task I never, ever have my life together to achieve: buying gift wrap.

I could be on top of my cleaning schedule, weeks ahead on my tasks at work, and plotting out an entire year’s budget worth of big-ticket purchases. But you will still find me in the aisle at Target on the night before Noche Buena digging through the dregs of the gift wrap aisle before carrying home something a little bit tacky to last-minute-wrap my gifts with.

If you are like me, let’s resolve to get it together a little sooner than “the night before” this year.

Day 18: Make or buy gift wrap.

If you’re crafty and want to make your own gift wrap this year, good news! We’re starting early enough for you to do that. Dig out the supplies, if you have them, and sit down to craft something tonight—whether it’s hand-stamped newspapers (way to upcycle!) or just a few ribbon bows you learned how to make with a YouTube tutorial .

Rethink your gift wrap. Gifts are just as special wrapped in butcher paper or newsprint. And now is a good time to start hanging on to boxes from deliveries for any gifts you need to box up or ship.

If you’re more of a BIY (buy it yourself) type, consider this your prompt to buy the gift wrap you’ll need for the holiday season. Whether you shop online, or hit up a store, you should have your pick of the litter. You can make your chic metallic snowflake dreams come true, rather than settling for cartoon reindeer.
