As if the stylish and affordable home furnishings weren’t enough of a reason to love IKEA, the store made it their mission to create a streamlined recycling process for their customers. Along with their chic assortment of recycling bins for sale, the Swedish super-retailer offers several convenient ways for customers to recycle their old stuff—think: glass, batteries, furniture, and more—while they’re shopping.
Don’t believe us? Here’s a breakdown of a few ways IKEA makes it super easy to recycle—and hopefully, make the world a better place.
1. They have recycling bins at every store
Did you know that every IKEA store has its own recycling station located inside the main entrance? This means that the next time you venture out to your local IKEA store, you can plan to responsibly dispose of certain items—think: cardboard, light bulbs, domestic batteries, paper packing, and plastic drink containers—before you start shopping. Even better, you can make a habit of recycling the packaging from the stuff you just purchased while you’re on your way out the door.
2. They’ll remove and recycle your old mattresses, furniture, and kitchen appliances
Sustainability is a big deal to IKEA, so it’s no surprise they’ve adopted a simple (and super affordable) furniture removal and recycling process for their customers. Anytime you have a new sofa, mattress, or white goods (i.e. large electrical appliances like refrigerators) delivered from IKEA, they’ll take your old furnishings with them for an on-the-spot swap. Not shopping anytime soon? No problem. For a small fee, they’ll come and pick up your old stuff and take it to a recycling center for you—just call your local IKEA store for more details.
3. They sell cute (and cheap) recycling bins for in-home use
Looking for an easy and stylish way to practice recycling at home? IKEA sells a ton of insanely cute recycling containers , ranging from compost receptacles to stackable bins, many for less than the price of gas it takes to get there. Here are three of our faves to prove it:
SORETERA , $9.99: The folding lid on this stackable bin makes it easy to organize your recyclables.
VARIERA , $5.99: Stick a couple of these compact containers in a deep kitchen drawer and store your food compost like a pro. (Just don’t forget to buy a lid !)
PLUGGIS , $6.99: Sort your plastics in style with a couple of stackable recycling baskets.
