If you can beleaf it, the year is almost over. A new year, however, brings new plant trends—and the plant parents at Bloomscape already have predictions on some of the top plant trends that will take root in 2021. Joyce Mast, Bloomscape’s resident Plant Mom (and brand founder Justin Mast’s actual mom!) predicts that three major types of plants will be particularly big next year: the Ficus altissima, textured and patterned foliage like Anthurium hookeri, and edible gardens .
Fiddle-leaf figs might have been big this year, but Mast’s prediction suggests that the plant’s moment in the sun has come and gone. The Plant Mom maintains that the Ficus altissima will be a popular alternative when it comes to large statement plants next year, since it makes a bold statement without the complex care instructions that come with fiddle-leaf figs. Meanwhile, plants with textured and patterned foliage will continue to bloom as a favorite among plant parents.
These include plants like Anthurium hookeri, Anthurium crystallinum , and Alocasias varieties such as Black Velvet, Polly, Regal Shield, and Frydek. These types of plants aren’t always the easiest to find, but they’re still very much coveted. Finally, the Plant Mom predicts that edible gardens will continue to thrive in 2021 as more people continue to spend more time at home. Herb gardens have definitely been having a major moment in quarantine as we all collectively hone in on our cooking skills in the kitchen.
In terms of some of the top plant trends this year, Bloomscape’s top-selling plant in 2020 was the Money Tree and Mini Money Tree . Both are pet-friendly options known for their reputations of bringing good fortune. So, tell us, fellow plant parents, which plant trends will you be incorporating into your homes next year?
